July 4th

The kids participated in the July 4th parade again this year. The city lets the kiddos ride their decorated bikes in the parade. Connor was big enough this year to participate which means I was also able to walk with them.

We started out with the flag raising ceremony. Thank you Lord for our free country!

At first, Connor preferred to pull the wagon rather than ride in it!

Here are a few more pictures.

Operation Christmas Child

Each year the kids pack a shoe box filled with gifts for Operation Christmas Child. Their box goes to a child in need who is their age somewhere around the world for Christmas. So today we made the annual trip to Wal-Mart to shop for the gifts! Here are some pictures of our kids packing their boxes and writing letters to the kids who will receive the boxes. What an awesome lesson for the kids as well as the adults each year!

Pumpkin Patch

Today we went to the Aplin Farm in Dothan, AL. We took a wagon ride out to a pumpkin patch. This was the first real pumpkin patch the kids had ever seen. Jeff told the kids they could each pick a pumpkin, but the rule was they had to be able to carry it back to the wagon. Caleb found a huge one and slowly carried it back to the wagon. Claire couldn't be outdone and found herself one just as big as Caleb's. She struggled to carry it to the wagon. Caleb told her to put it down and he would come back and carry it for her. She wouldn't let the pumpkin win and carried it all the way herself!! Connor didn't compete...he just watched all the action. This farm also had sunflowers growing beside the pumpkins. They were quite tall. I said they were taller than Claire, but she was quick to correct me that there were plenty of sunflowers shorter than her as well! The farm also had a maze cut through their corn field. That was a fun, family activity! The whole day was a lot of fun!
